The Secret Garden Coverbook

This is my take on 'The Secret Garden's' cover book, a beautiful children's book that I had the pleasure of reading some years ago. For the module 'The Business of Illustration: Portfolios' in the LABASAD course I took, Grace Helmer assigned us a task to create something to fill the gap in our portfolios. As my goal is to do illustrations for children's books, I chose to make this artwork.
The process
As you can see below, I first painted a gold lettering in the piece, but after some feedback from Grace, I decided to take her suggestion and change the process for the title and author name: I covered up the gold letters, redid the words with black on a new piece of paper, scanned it and chose the color that best suited this piece!
