Editorial Illustration
For this project, I was asked to create an illustration for Jamaica Kincaid's text "Girl" for an online post on The New Yorker website. My process consisted of doing a mind map with some interpretations that I extracted from the text, but also from information about Jamaica Kincaid and the time the text was written. Normally, I create four sketches, and then I decide what the best way is with the client.
For the final illustration, I made some adjustments to the "Mother" blouse pattern, inspired by the colors and forms of the Antigua flag. I studied the values from the colors to create the best contrast, and finally, I painted with acrylic gouache, a material that I love to use.
